The The Point Duathlon & Triathlon Sunday, September 23, 2001 Point Lookout State Park, Maryland 1.2m swim, 56m bike, 13.1m run and 10k run, 56m bike, 13.1m run
Despite high heat and humidity, this second annual event drew a record crowd for a half iron distance triathlon and the longest duathlon on the East Coast. The unpleasant conditions kept the times slow, but Mark Lambrides won the triathlon for the second year in a row, beating Tommy Nelson of Hyattsville, Maryland by about 50 yards. The duathlon suffered from a low turnout but Dwayne Neal led with an opening 10k of 36:31 and then succumbed to eventual winner Jimmy Parrott.
The course runs parallel to the Chesapeake Bay or the Potomac River for most of its length making it one of the most scenic courses around. With new sponsors signed on for 2002, prize money, a great post race party and an $80 entry fee for the triathlon, Triathlantic hopes to double the number of entrants next year.

Great job at the race. $80 for a quality half iron. Long sleeve shirts, more than enough good food afterwards, tons of support, nice looking awards and efficiently performed. The only thing missing was lot of glitz and it wasn't missed. Makes you think that charging $135 for a half iron is a rip. I'll be back and I'm sure the numbers will go above the 350 or so this year.

What a great weekend away. The trip from NY was a bit long, but worth it once we had our first crab dinner. The course had plenty of drinks along the course. Post race was one of the best food displays I have seen. A long duathlon was nice.
