Ironman Hawaii 2001
Top 10 Finishers

Ironman Hawaii 2001 turned out to be one of the slowest, if not the slowest, in history. The swim times were slow and the bike was extremely windy. Both those factors, along with high humidity, helped keep the run times slow. The conditions make Tim DeBoom's winning time of 8:31 (a 15 minute margin of victory), which included a three minute penalty, that much more impressive. DeBoom finished to chants of USA, while Cam Brown had a breakthrough second place performance. Several big names DNF'd, including Peter Reid, Luc van Lierde, Dave Scott, and Joanna Zieger. Most people were just happy to finish.

1. Tim DeBoom (USA) 8:31:18

If Steve Larsen had held back a bit on the bike he might have made history. Can't wait to see how he does next year with one Kona race under his belt.

I am extremely happy for Tim Deboom. He seems like a super nice person and has been rewarded for all the focus and hard work over the years on his incrediable improvements. I was hoping though that Peter Reid and Tim would go one two, either or. Anyway what happened to Peter on the run. Was it stomach problems or just out of gas from doing Ironman Canada
