North and South American triathletes battled in Sunday's ITU points race in Guatemala. Americans Joanna Zeiger, Sheila Taormina, and Susie Stark led the swim and formed the lead pack on the bike. Zeiger outran Taormina by 43 seconds for the victory while another American, Jenny Marine, had the fastest run split to move into third place.
Six men completed the 40k bike in under 59 minutes, and then it was a footrace. Juraci Moreira of Brazil barely escaped from Joe Umphenour to win by four seconds. Brian Fleischman was two minutes slower on the run, but that was still fast enough to hold on to the third spot.
