Big Rock Triathlon Perris Lake, California Sunday, April 14, 2002 1.2m swim, 40m bike, 10m run Complete Results
Spencer Smith won the California Big Rock Triathlon. Smith led from start to finish with the fastest split in each leg of the event. Chad Hawker was second, 8 minutes behind Smith. Paul Thomas raced the event with the intent of dropping out after the bike, because a knee injury has prevented him from running. Thomas was the last pro after the swim, but recorded the second fastest bike split.
Dolly Ginter was the top pro female, going 2:21 faster than Paula Newby Fraser. Ginter had a 20 second lead going into the run and then extended her lead with a 1:08:16 ten mile run time.

Beginning with Ironman Florida, November 2001, Spencer Smith continues to gain momentum in the longer courses. Soon, the triathlon magazines will bewriting of his dominance in Hawaii.
