USA Triathlon Long Distance Triathlon Camp May 23-26, 2002 Clermont, Florida
Join us for a long distance training and instruction camp at the USA Triathlon National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. Where is Clermont? It's just 25 minutes west of Orlando 70 minutes East of Tampa. Clermont is fast becoming the epicenter of triathlon activity, and along with numerous sprint to Olympic distance races, it hosts the USAT Ultra-Distance National Championship Triathlon at the Great Floridian in October.
The camp will be limited to a maximum of 25 participants, open to ages 20-99. Minimum fitness required: ability to swim 1000 meters within 30 minutes, Bike 40 miles nonstop, Run/walk 8 miles nonstop.
Whether you're a beginner or seasoned veteran, this camp can help improve your fitness, offer new ideas for your training, and improve your racing. We have a highly qualified staff of coaches who will help you toward achieving your goals, whether they are to win, or just to finish.
Camp Schedule All workouts and lectures will originate at NTC.
Thursday, May 23 12-12:30pm- Check in and paperwork 12:30pm- Staff Introduction & orientation to camp 1pm- Swim Workout 2:30pm- Bike Handling Skills & Drills- at Lake Minneola Beach, followed by easy ride. Cornering, stopping, turning, climbing, low touching. 6pm Lecture- Season Planning, Goal Setting, and Prime Triathlon. 7pm Dinner- Restaurant
Friday, May 24 7am Breakfast (on your own) 8am Long Bike workout, 50-80 miles, Easy transition run, 2-3 miles 11am-1pm Ice bath/ lunch (on your own) 1:30pm Lecture: Key Workouts, S-B-R tips 5pm Optional run 6pm Lecture- Prime Triathlon, Part II 7pm Dinner- Restaurant
Saturday, May 25 7am Breakfast (on your own) 8am Long Swim workout 2500-4500m 12pm easy run 12:30-1:30pm Ice bath/ lunch (on your own) 1:30pm Lecture: Key Workouts, S-B-R tips. 2:30pm Easy ride 6pm Lecture- Lecture: Racing Strategies (Tapering, Nutrition, Gear), 7pm Dinner- Catered

Cost: $350.00 ($357.00 for non-USAT members) until 5/10/02, $400.00 ($407.00) after 5/11/02. Includes evening meals, coaching sessions, lectures, access to National Training Center, use of weight room, locker rooms, ice baths, etc. Snacks and drinks will be provided during and between training sessions. Support vehicle will accompany training rides and runs.
Optional services: meals at Sky Top Cafe: priced by item or $6 all you can eat. massage: $30/half-hour physiotherapy: $40/session Metabolic Testing for Lactate Threshold/VO2max (price TBD).
Lodging options and costs: Athletes are responsible for making their own arrangements for lodging & daytime meals.

The USAT Long Distance Triathlon Camp is limited to 25 participants. Upon receipt of this application and payment, your spot in this camp will be secured. We will notify you by e-mail or phone when your payment is processed and spot secured. Your payment is refundable, minus $50.00 for processing fee, for withdrawals up until May 10, 2002. For withdrawals after that time, $200 of your full payment is refundable.

About Dr. Jim Taylor (jtphd@cs.com, 415.345.9820)
Dr. Jim Taylor is widely recognized for his work in the psychology of high-level performance in sport, business, medicine, and the performing arts. A former U.S. top-20 ranked alpine ski racer who competed internationally, Dr. Taylor is also a United States Professional Tennis Association certified teaching professional, and a 2nd degree black belt and certified instructor in karate, a marathon runner and triathlete. Dr. Taylor's professional areas of specialization include sport psychology, youth development, parent training, corporate coaching, medical professional training, coaches education, injury rehabilitation, and stress management. Dr. Taylor received his Bachelor's degree from Middlebury College and earned his Master's degree and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Colorado. He is a former Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale. Dr. Taylor has published more than 250 articles in scholarly and popular publications, and has given more than 350 workshops and presentations throughout North America and Europe. He is the author of thirteen books including the Prime Sport book series.
About Coach Ric Rosenkranz (ric@usatriathlon.org, 888.841.7995 x4222)
Ric has been competing in duathlon and triathlon since 1990. Prior to that, he was a
state-champion miler in high school, and competed throughout college in XC and Track at the University of Kansas. Ric has been a professional competitor since 1997, with consistent top-ten placings in both duathlon and triathlon. Ric's athletic highlights include nearly 40 overall multisport victories, a 2nd place at USAT Long Course Nationals in 1999, a 4th place at Ironman Florida in 1999, and personal bests of 4:00 for Half-Ironman and 8:50 for Ironman.
Ric began coaching triathlon in 1998, serving as coach for the Tornado Triathlon Club in Manhattan, KS, and as Bicycle Spin Coach for Tri-KC club of Kansas City. In 2001, he began working for USA Triathlon as recruitment & talent identification camp coach, collegiate team coach, and volunteer assistant to the resident team coach at the Olympic Training Center. He is now the Athlete Development Director/Coach for USAT. Ric holds a degree with honors in Psychology from the University of Kansas, a masters degree in Psychology from the University of North Dakota, and a second masters in Kinesiology from Kansas State University. Ric is a USAT Level II certified coach.
Sara has been competing in multisport for about 10 years. Her athletic highlights include numerous overall victories in both triathlon and duathlon. In 1999, she won her age group and was 2nd overall at the Olympic-Distance Triathlon National Championship. She was also duathlon world champion in the 25-29 age group in 1998, and boasts an impressive 4:22 for the Half IronMan distance.
Currently, Sara serves as development director for USA Triathlon, with an emphasis on coach education and athlete development. Sara has just begun her coaching career and is a USAT Level I certified coach. Sara holds a B.A. with honors in Psychology from the University of Kansas, and an M.S. in Kinesiology from Kansas State University. She is also a certified nutritionist.
Jay is a USAT Level I certified coach, and has been coaching for three years. Jay has also worked with several duathletes that have raced on the National and International level, from a national age group champ (20-24) last year to Powerman Zofingen. He has also coached 5 USAT Age Group National Team Members, one of whom is turning pro this year (Joseph Cech). Jay serves as head coach of the UNC (Chapel Hill) Triathlon team (~120 members). He has raced primarily Ironman distance (8 races, including two Hawaii qualifications in 97 and 98).
