For the second year in a row Greg Watson won the Dannon Duathlon in Wrentham, Massachusetts. Watson trailed Tyler Johnson and Travis Kuhl by 19 seconds after the first run, but he took the lead on the first bike leg, riding 77 seconds faster than each of them. Despite a slower transition and slower second run, Watson held his lead going into the second bike leg and won by a minute. Johnson and Kuhl were together until the final run. Johnson had the fastest final run to finish second. Kuhl was third, and Chris Tolonen finished fourth.

Anne Preisig beat Marjan Huizing by just 27 seconds in the women's race. Huizing held a slight lead on the first bike, but Preisig caught her on the second run and then was faster on the second bike leg. She was another 20 seconds faster in the final run to take the win. Huizing was second and Candy Angle was third. Desiree Ficker hurt her achilles and did not finish the race.

These two young guys, Tyler and Travis, are the only Americans to finish a duathlon ahead of Watson in 2001. They could be the future aces of the sport. They are both fine competitors, let's wish them continued success. But, don't count on Greg getting out of the way too soon. He will make them earn everything they get.

Just read your article on the race this past weekend in Wrentham/Boston. I happen to be a proud sister to Travis! It was great to see the photos and the wonderful comment by KIWINICK. If interested, I've been keeping a modest website for Travis since his tri/du-athlon career began ... you can find it at http://travistrack.tripod.com

It was quite cold. That may have had something to do with it. Also a pretty stiff wind on parts of the bike course.

Eric, do you still do interviews? It might be interesting to hear from these two guys regarding their finishes ahead of Watson last year and their plans for the future.
