Sam Wilbur won the men's race in a new course record, taking two minutes off the record time set by Andy Ames last year. Ames is out of action this summer until he recovers from a knee injury. Wilbur blazed through the first 2.5 mile run in 11:29 - a sub-4:40 per mile pace.  Wilbur also led the run in last month's Barkin' Dog Duathlon, only to be caught on the bike.  In the month
since, he has worked on the bike segment of the race and held off all challengers over the 15.5 mile route. Wilbur held a 5 minute pace through the final 2.5 mile run to take the win in 59:15.

In the women's race, Katie Blackett also dominated the race from start to finish to record her second win in the 2002 Mile-High Duathlon Series.  Behind her, Kerrie Wlad grabbed second place to move her into second in the series standings.

The men's finish order in this, the second race of the 2002 Mile-High Duathlon Series, really
shuffled up the point standings, and now several men will battle for the first place share of
the prize money in the final race of the series. This year there is $3,000 up for grabs in the
series, with $2,000 being split among the top-4 male and female series point leaders following
the Cabbage Head Duathlon & Series Breakfast on June 29 in Wiggins, Colorado.
