Why am I not surprised Bryan Rhodes DNF'ed, For the amount that guy talks... He drops out of every other race.
I heard that he even talks trash at the local Monday night Taupo duathlons.

I don't know who started the post about TJ, but I was in the race with him and I think this is pretty much what happened. TJ was out of the water in about 14:10, then he had the fastest first lap on the bike course and was up in third place ahead of Le Brun but behind Noble and Classen when he flatted. I think he ran about a mile with the bike before an age grouper gave him a wheel. The tire was so big that he had to ride the last half of the bike with the rear brake undone. Because of the flat I think his bike time was 1:26:?? Even though he knew he was going to be DQ'd he ran about 36:00 Roughly 2:00 faster than Noble and Classen and pulled himself up to about 6th place. Some guys should be glad that the officials DQ'd him rather than give him a time penalty. But, hey that's racing.

The Tyler Johnson that you speak of, as his splits indicate, looked to be having a great race. I was also in Richmond racing that day and your story unfortunately makes no sense. You say that he had the fastest first lap split on the bike course, nobody was taking splits so I'm not sure how you came up with that. Also, if he is an adept and experienced mountain biker, he would have had a little goodie called a spare tube, just in case something called a flat tire would arise. After the race I heard officials looking for him leading me to believe that he commited some other more serious infraction besides getting a flat tire. The other thing, what age-grouper is going to sacrifice their race and give some guy their wheel. Very fishy......

Sorry, my mistake, it was a course marshall who gave him the wheel. That makes the DQ look really fishy. He was riding a borrowed mt. bike because he doesn't own one. Maybe that's why he doesn't know all of the tricks. I was just doing the splits from memory. I don't think they are oficially posted because he was DQ'd. The split on the first bike lap was from his uncle who happened to be at the race watching his son.
