5430 Triathlon Boulder, Colorado Sunday, August 25, 2002 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run & 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run
Boulder, Colorado Colorado age-group triathletes Craig Greenslit and Shannon Kerth won the second annual 5430 Triathlon on Sunday at Boulder Reservoir. Greenslit, a 32-year-old from Longmont, covered the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run in 10:04:06, beating another Longmont resident, Matt Adams (10:34:40). Kerth, who was ninth last year, finished in 11:16:06. She beat her 2001 time by more than an hour. "Last year I had two flat tires on the bike, so I had a much better race this year," said Kerth, a 32-year-old mother of two from Highlands Ranch. Longmont's Lynn O'Donnell, 43, was the runner-up in 11:24:47.
Denver's Kirk Framke and Boulder's Beth Anderson were the winners of the inaugural 5430 half-distance event. Framke caught former Ironman star Wolfgang Dittrich of Boulder on the run to win in 4:11:26, while Dittrich finished second in 4:13:07. Anderson, 25, finished in 4:42:40, beating Tracey Schefter of Aurora, Colorado, by six minutes.
Approximately 500 athletes competed in the full distance, half distance and relay at the Reservoir. The race was a benefit for the ALS Association, the national not-for-profit health organization dedicated to the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).
