The 12th Annual Lighter than Air Duathlon was held last Sunday at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station.  This race consisted of a 3 mile run, 20 mile bike, and 2 mile run, all on the Naval base.  Since this was the first race since the Sept 11 attacks the security on the base was extremely tight and resulted in the race being delayed 30 minutes.  The course was flat and a little windy for the bike with the bike portion taking place on some of the huge runways.  This race served as the Mid-Atlantic regional championships and had 300 finishers from 10 states.

Todd Wiley won the men's race in a time of 1:12:01.  Josh Beck, this year's National Age Group champion, was the first age group finisher in 1:13:15.  Brock Butler from Manasqua, New Jersey rounded out the top 3.  In the women's field Cecily Tynan, who finished 2nd overall at this years National Age Group Championships, won in a time of 1:24:55.  Melissa Maurer was second in 1:27:03 and Kristin Villopoto from Durham, North Carolina was third overall and first Masters.  Below are the top 10 Male and Female finishers.
