The annual elections for the USAT Board of Directors are taking place now. The Board consists of 11 members - 8 are elected by all annual members, and an additional 3 members are elected by the pro membership. Each Board member serves two year terms, up to a maximum of three consecutive terms (after a one year layoff, a Board who served 3 terms could run again).
USAT's membership is up to approximately 40,000 members, but typically less than 5% of the membership votes. The four spots up for election are listed below. For more information, and to obtain a ballot, click here. All ballots must be received by USA Triathlon by November 1.
Western Region Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and the city of El Paso, Texas
Central Region Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas (excluding El Paso), Wisconsin.

That is not correct on either count. Some posters like to personally criticize other people and they do it anonymously. If you want to be critical of somebody make it factual and use your name. Other non-personal comments can be made anonymously.

Triathlantic is run by Brad Jaeger. He does put on great races in the Mid-Atlantic region. I will email him to see if he would consider having his duathlons USAT for next year. Maybe he would consider trying USAT for his long course du (10k,40k,5k) he has planned for next year.

Hi All,
I would like to ask all of you in the West to consider Sharron Ackles when you vote. I have known Sharron for nearly 10 years and I must say that our first few years were not the smoothest. But as I got to know Sharron as a competitor, volunteer and fellow USAT Board member, I began to realize that I was in the company of a very special person. As a 4 time competitor in the Hawaiian Ironman I experienced Sharron's sensitivity and caring attitutude towards ALL of the athletes. Sharron endeavours to make Ironman a peoples event, one that is fair and fun for everyone. As a volunteer the last 5 years, I have seen this same caring attitude extended to all of the volunteers. You have to ask yourself why do so many people come year after year at their own expense to work this race. True it's the race itself, but that is merely a reflection of the Race Director and her staff which always reflects her devotion to the sport and her athletes. Finally as a USAT Board member I had the pleasure to serve with Sharron for 5 years. In those years I got to really know Sharron personally and work closely with her. The attitude that helped her make Ironman the race it is, is the same the attitude she displayed while on the Board first as Secretary General and later as it's Vice President. She has a calming and reasonable approach to all of the issues and she has personally co-written and supported numerous resolutions that have improved the Federation and it's service to it's membership. So please vote and join with some very important and well known folks in the sport to get Sharron Ackles elected to the USAT Board of Directors. These folks include: Brad Davison, Co-Chair of the Age Group Commission and President of USAT/South Midwest, Bob Babbit of Coompetitor Magazine and a member of the Ironman Hall of Fame, Lynn Kosorek, Present of USAT/Southwest, Rachel Sears, Co-chair of the Duathlon Commission, Larry Siedman, President USAT Rocky Mountain Region, Valerie Gattis, member USAT Board of Directors and former chair of the Womens Commission and of course myself. Voting is the most important right you have, please use it.
Thanks,
Jack Weiss
Chairperson to Elect Sharron Ackles

There have been some degrading comments about Rob Vigorito on this message board that I would like to address. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, degrading someone who has been working hard to promote our sport, needs to think first and know what they are talking about. Vigo is someone I know very well for many years. I have been doing tris, dus, and a variety of other races for over 16 years, including his races, other local races, national races, as well as world championships, so I have some experience in the sport, although I don't claim to be an authority by any means. He has been putting on high quality, safe, fun races, helping fellow athletes in countless ways, spending endless hours supporting our USAT organization in many many ways, supporting our sport in the community by giving generous donations from race proceeds as well as acknowledging everyone who has helped support the race. It would be great if we would all be a little more appreciative of the people who are helping our sport grow and stay fun instead of trying to tear them down.

Tim Becker is an athlete's representative. You can always find him at the races, in the races or promoting the races. He's a former age group World Champion that has been a many time Zofigen competitor and winner. But bottomline is Tim cares!
He's always there for all the newbies and the veterans. He's accessible and willing to help.
Having raced with him in Europe at Venray and having been through some good times and some hard times that trip in Europe, Tim showed me something about his mettle, he does what he commits to, and he doesn't walk away from an event or teammate when you need him.
Tim has got my vote: because of the experience he brings to the table about Duathlon.
