Five of the top 10 ranked female duathletes in the world will face off in Calais, France on Sunday, plus several top triathletes in what may be one of the deepest fields for the World Championships.  The field is led by top ranked and three time world champion Irma Heeren of the Netherlands.  Heeren made an unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the Olympic marathon earlier in the year, and has done only three races this year, two of which were triathlons.  Heeren skipped the world championships last year, but she did put in an impressive 8:56:23 iron distance race at Almere in 1999, one of the fastest women's times in history.  She will be challenged by 1999 World Champion Jackie Gallagher, who has raced infrequently since the Sydney World Cup triathlon in April.  American Siri Lindley is also a threat.   Carried by her improved running, Lindley won her first Triathlon World Cup race in August where she beat Olympic medal winners Michellie Jones and Brigitte McMahon.
