Prize money was increased for the long distance ITU Powerman Duathlon World Championship which takes place in South Africa on 12 November 2000 after an announcement by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and South Africa organisers, Sportsvendo.
In a joint statement, the ITU and Sportsvendo announced that prize money for the world championship will be equal for men and women. Men and women in positions one to ten will receive prize money whereas previously, women only received prize money for positions one to five.

The total prize money for this event now amounts to a whopping US$30,500. Prize money for men and women will be distributed as follows; first ($4,000), second ($3,000), third ($2,300), fourth ($1,700), fifth ($1,300), sixth ($1,000), seventh ($750), eighth ($550), ninth ($400) and tenth ($250).
Organisers furthermore expressed their mission to make the event easily accessible to all. Economical accommodation and tour packages have been negotiated and will also organise homestay for athletes according to demand.
Various tour packages have been compiled for participants, offering them the opportunity to visit some of South Africa's most famous tourist attractions at economical rates.
