In a shocking announcement Luc Van Lierde has withdrawn from Ironman Hawaii.  The announcement was made by Saucony's Dan Schorr in a prepared statement.  Van Lierde's statement stated several outside stresses have prevented him from being fully prepared for the race.

He is readying for a quick departure from Kona on his way back to Belgium.   Van Lierde has raced Ironman Hawaii three times, winning in 1996, finishing second in 1998, and winning again in 1999.
