KEYSTONE, CO - Steve Larsen (33 - Davis, CA) and Jamie Whitmore (27 - Elk Grove, CA) won their respective professional divisions at the 6th Annual Nissan Xterra Central Championship race at Keystone Resort in Colorado this afternoon. Larsen completed the 1-kilometer swim, 27k mountain bike, and 10k trail run in 2:06:40, more than a minute better than Justin Thomas and almost three minutes ahead of two-time XTERRA World Champ Conrad Stoltz of South Africa. The victory was Larsen's first XTERRA win since August of 2001 (he placed second at the West Championship in June).

In the women's race Whitmore conquered the course in 2:30:47 for her fifth consecutive XTERRA Championship of 2003. The reigning U.S. Champ has now won seven of the last ten major XTERRA events. The top Colorado pro male was Josiah Middaugh (Vail) who finished eighth overall in 2:14:54, followed by Cameron Widoff (9th, 2:16:17) and Jimmy Archer (10th, 2:18:05) - both from Boulder.
