One week before the Long Course World Championships at Powerman South Africa, several Pro duathletes will attempt to add a season ending victory to their resume.
Three of the top 10 men in the world will square off: Armand Van der Smissen (5), Greg Watson (7), and Nicolas LeBrun (9). We give the slight nod to 1998 Gran Canaria winner Greg Watson as the favorite, although LeBrun recorded a victory at Powerman France and a second place finish at Powerman Emmental earlier this year. Other pro men include: Daniel Keller (2nd in 1999 and strong at the Powerman distance), Mikael Goasduff, Uwe Gradler, Henrik Antonsen, and Richard Graemiger. Annaleah Emmerson is the only pro woman listed.
The Spanish island of Gran Canaria, located in the Canary Islands near the coast of Morocco, is one of the more exotic locations for a race. If you are willing to travel this race is worth doing. The 2001 race may move from November to February 25.
