EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Life Time Fitness, a national health and fitness company, today announced the broad field of professional triathletes -- who will participate in the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon.

Based upon registrations to date, 14 of the professional participants will go on to compete at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Combined, a field of more than 40 female and male professionals will battle for the event's record $500,000 prize purse. Set to take place on Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Minneapolis/ St. Paul, the event will be broadcast via same-day national coverage on NBC Sports at 1:00 p.m. (CST).

The Triathlon features Life Time Fitness' Equalizer, an innovative competition format that allows the professional women and men to compete on equal ground, creating a dramatic battle-of-the-sexes race to the finish for the first-place prize of $250,000. The second through fifth place finishers will receive $50,000, $35,000, $25,000, and $20,000 respectively. Cash will be awarded to the overall top 12 professional women and top 12 professional men.

More than 2,500+ amateur and professional athletes are expected to participate in the event. The Triathlon features a stunning course, beginning and ending at Minneapolis' Lake Nokomis and following the Twin Cities beautiful Parkway system

. Both Olympic- and short- distance courses will be offered. The short course includes a .4-mile swim, 15-mile bike race and a 3-mile run. The Olympic course features a 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run.

I would think that Simon Lessing would be on the list! After seeing what happened in Bellingham my money is on Liz Blachford to win!

I thought that Simon Lessing was 4 or 5th last year. So I'm sure you would be invited again. Perhaps he is complete focused on IM and doesn't want to travel to the race because Lake Placid?

It would be fantastic if Simon got a wildcard to race at the Olympics but it will never happen.
