I've posted this prior.. it is beyond silly to award this much money to a male or female. Look at the absurd step off between the first and second place awards. The big paydays in this sport are few and far between, why not make it available equally between the sexes? Who really cares about this challenge of the sexes nonsense and what does it prove? I think it would be more interesting to assemble some top age groupers and have an age grouper vs pro race w/ handicap. Give me an hour head start and I'll beat a pro (well.. better make that an hour and a half..).

when you step up, do this race, and finish anywhere out of first place, you can talk like that. frankly most of the people on that top finisher list have been racing a lot longer that you have and deserve any payday that anyone wants to hand them.
be happy anyone is awarding money out there. gee, maybe you haven't thought that the prize offerrings at races before they tried this format didn't seem to faze the general public into wanting to see more primetime coverage on NBC.
personally, I think they maybe need to review the handicap time there, as that finish gap is a lot greater than the first two years.

that is the problem with this sort of race, the handicap is hard to pick.
this year's gap was 11:09. it was bigger then last year because the distance was greater then last year. olympic distance this year, hodge podge of distances last year.
last year if barb had not been in the race or flatted 7 men would have cross before the first women rina hill. that stagger was 9:41.
becasue the distance when up the stagger went up to 11:09. lorett harrop would have still won it this year if the stagger had been as low as 8:25! she would have won by more then a miunte with last years stagger on a longer course!
this race is a crap shoot that just worked out well the first times and sort of well the second time. next year they are hooped when it comes to predicting a stagger.
and why does a women win it every year? because if you make the stagger to little it looks sexist. of course a man will go faster then a women. so what is the point. you aren't show casing the athletes but the ability to quantify the difference between the two and that is proven to be impossible to do.
i give it one year more tops if it is even an equalizer next year.

What is all the moaning and groaning about?? It is awesome to see these triathletes being offered money like this. It is good to see a race that encourages the men to go out hard from the start and put everything into a race instead of watching each other in the pack (exception - Craig Walton!). And it is great to to see our progressive sport pay equal or in this case more to female athletes. Find another sport where the females have the potential to earn more than the men.
This is an awesome concept and if the USA Tri community don't support it, I am sure that there are a few countries in the southern hemisphere that would. (It would also save the eventual winner from having to travel so far!!)

Krol, why the lunge at my neck? Fact is I'll never step up to the line in that race and finish anywhere. does that mean I'm not allowed to express an opinion?
Geez, ease up.
