The ITU Duathlon World Championship over the long distance was held in Fredericia, Denmark today. Greg Watson from Philadelphia, USA took the men's gold medal, completing the 20km run, 120km bike and 10km run in 4 hours and 56 minutes. Watson is a 38 year old veteran duathlete and 4 time US Champion. Sergio Rodriguez from Spain took the silver medal, trailing Watson by four minutes. Belgium's Nico Huyberechts came third, completing the final 10km in an impressive 37:50, thereby keeping Denmarkss best hope, Henrik Svarre, out of the medal ranks.

The Duathlon World Championship was held in sunny and scenic surroundings in and around Fredericia, with thousands of spectators following the race from the early morning. Watson was very happy with the tough course in Fredericia. “It suited me well, and it was fantastic to have such a great support from the many spectators all along the course”. Schwalbe echoed Watson's comments. “I'm just so happy, and running the last strech with the many spectators was the best feeling”.
The win earned Watson and Schwalbe a total of USD 6,250 each, of the total USD 50,000 Prize Money.

Congratulations Greg. You are and have been a great ambassador for Duathlon for as long as I can remember ( Dont take that the wrong way, I have a short memory). Seriously though, you deserve this victory as it is the payoff of hard work and consistantly being there on the start line as a threat.
Hats off to you.

Greg-
You are finally a WORLD CHAMPION! Long time coming for a guy who's had a remarkably consistant, top of the game type of career! It's well deserved my man. A big Congrats to you! Will we see you at Dannon this weekend here in Atlanta? And to you John McG...way to podium my friend! Hats off to the "old" guys! All the best, Bruce.

Outstanding performance !!!!! Last time I talked to you (Switzerland), you mentioned about your busy schedule at work... you beat all the guys that probably don't have a real job like you and all they do is train. You kicked B....
