Honolulu, HI (November 11, 2000)...TEAM Unlimited, Hawaii-based owners of the XTERRA USA, International and World Championship multi-sport race series, announced today the launch of the sport Down Under with the XTERRA Australia Tour slated for February, 2001.

XTERRA, the leading off-road multi-sport, is a unique race that bridges the gap between the mature mountain bike market, and traditional triathlon competition, by combining a 1.5-kilometer swim with a 30-kilometer mountain bike and an 11-kilometer trail run.

The Australian series will be organised by Xtri Australia, a sports marketing firm composed of three of Australia's senior multi-sport personalities. The trio includes the man behind the resurgence of Ironman Australia and the initiator of the Uncle Tobys Super Series, Graeme Hannan, multi-sport marketing and public relations expert Nick Munting, and multi-sport coach, Brett Mace.

"We've already received a great reaction to XTERRA," said Xtri Australia Media Director, Nick Munting. "Australian XTERRA experts have signed for the first rounds. Toeing the line in round one will be 2000 XTERRA Points Series runner-up, Jody Purcell and XTERRA Great Britain runner-up, Raeleigh Tennant."

The XTERRA Australia Tour will be the first cross country multi-sport series in the country, and features four stops, culminating in the nation's capital:

XTERRA Falls Creek @ Falls Creek, Victoria February 3- 4, 2001
XTERRA Canberra @ Canberra, ACT March 10-11, 2001
XTERRA Yeppoon @ Yeppoon, Queensland August 11-12, 2001
XTERRA Australia Championship @ Canberra, ACT December 8-9, 2001

The XTERRA concept will be launched at what will be Australia's highest ever triathlon, to be held at 5,000 feet elevation at Falls Creek, in the mountains of Victoria. XTERRA Falls Creek will be a sprint XTERRA race consisting of a 500-meter, wetsuit mandatory swim, a 20-kilometer mountain bike through ski runs, and a 7-kilometer trail run.

Race two will be XTERRA Canberra, held at Black Mountain Peninsula in the heart of the country's capital city, on March 10. Race three will take place August 12 at Yeppoon in central Queensland. The fourth and final race of the series will be the national championship, XTERRA Australia, on December 10, also scheduled for Canberra.

To kick-off the series, a points score, incorporating the first three events, will qualify competitors for the 2001 XTERRA World Championship, to be held October 14 on the island of Maui. Winners of the inaugural XTERRA Australia Championship will qualify for the 2002 XTERRA World Championship.

As in the U.S., the Australian events will feature the XTERRA Experience - a weekend-long festival designed to attract outdoor enthusiasts and their families, and incorporating:

XTERRA Expo XTERRA Jr. - Children's XTERRA Xtri 1500 - open or rough water swim Xtri Scramble - 6 /11-kilometer cross country fun run XTERRA University - clinics by top athletes, coaches and sport-specific experts XT Sprint - 750-meter swim, 15-kilometer mountain bike, 6.5-kilometer trail run XTERRA - 1.5-kilometer swim, 30-kilometer mountain bike, and 13km trail run.

With the introduction of XTERRA in Australia, the XTERRA's global reach extends to five countries, incorporating 30 events in the USA, Canada, Japan, the UK, and Australia. Plans are also underway for the launch of XTERRA New Zealand, also to be organised by Xtri Australia.
