It was a day of records in Taupo as Joanna Lawn won the women's Ironman New Zealand in course record time and Cameron Brown won the men's race for a record ninth time. Lawn used a course best 3:06 marathon to run down her competition, including Gina Crawford the prior year's winner. Brown chased down Terenzo Bozzone who had thrown a huge start into the bike leg, though Brown closed down most of it heading into T2. Brown's time was third best ever at Ironman New Zealand, among his many great performances at this event.
