Scorching heat up to 35 degrees Celcius demanded a great deal today of all athletes participating in the jubilee event of Powerman Austria. Belgian Joerie VANSTEELANT and Danish Susanne SVENDSEN got along best with the conditions on a very demanding course through the scenic Nationalpark region Ennstal.

Men’s race
A very well prepared Joerie VANSTEELANT forced the pace from the very beginning of the race. Powerman World Ranking Leader Anthony Le DUEY (FRA) was the only athlete who could keep with the pace, so the two of them first got into the transition area, 50 seconds ahead of Powerman World Champion Andy SUTZ (SUI). SUTZ, who had a flu last week, did not feel very well in the beginning, but could catch up with Le DUEY on the bike course and finally finished second - 49 seconds ahead of the World Ranking Leader Le DUEY. Mr. Duathlon Joerie VANSTEELANT once again impressed with an awesome performance, winning by a clear margin over 8 minutes. VANSTEELANT surely will remember his victory of POWERMAN Austria in Weyer in particular, as he went across the finish line holding his baby-son Niels who was born in May 2011: “I feel so well here in Weyer, it’s almost like family holiday with our homestay family every time. It was really very hot today, but I was well prepared as I could do some good training in the mountains before and the hot conditions have not been a problem for me. I am glad to having been able to win again.”

Women’s race
A visibly surprised Susanne SVENDSEN (DEN) could win the women’s race. The 32 year old Danish athlete celebrated a start to finish victory. After a fifth place in 2005 and no result in 2008 she could win POWERMAN Austria 2011 at her third entrance for the first time, 5 min. 55sec. ahead of multisport grande dame Erika CSOMOR from Hungary. Jacqueline UEBELHART from Switzerland could finish third.

Hard, but hearty – the 15th anniversary event of POWERMAN Austria is history. Happy finishers, happy spectators and a happy organizing team still celebrate an extraordinary POWERMAN event and look forward to meeting again at POWERMAN Austria 2012.
