Powerman Muncie Triathlon & Duathlons
Muncie, Indiana

$5,000 Pro Prize Purse

Returning femaile Champion Michelle Parson
won the 2011 race with a time 3:18 on the
10k/61.8k/10k course.
After winning, Parsons said "The winds were
incredible today and worse than the rain in
2010."
The same sentiment was shared by the 2011
Powerman Muncie men's champion Ryan Guliano
(2:50). "Wow, the first half of each lap was
brutal to say the least".
Both showed they were the class of the field
with the win and took home the 2-gallon Ball
jars with their victory etched into each
glass.
The remaining races consisted of the USA
Triathlon Mideast Regional Duathlon
Championships in the the 3 duathlon
distances, 2 triathlons, an aquabike, and the
Big Brothers Big Sister benefit 5k walk and
run. Results are posted on the Muncie Multi-
Sport web page.
The drastic drop in air temperature; 33
degrees and the 25-3mph winds on the lake
forced organizers to shorten the swim to 400
yards for all swimmers." Hypothermia cases
would have been a huge issue and the short
wave length white caps dictated an immediate
switch to a shorter swim since we emphasie
safety first in all aspects of these events,"
Stated Steven Tomboni, CEO and veteran RD of
Muncie Muti-Sport, Inc.

Said it elsewhere, will say it again here: well worth the trip down. Wind, cold, endless rhythm-disrupting rollers (on the run anyway...that bike course is Fast)...if it was any easier they'd call it Alaskan crab fishing. Not my first, definitely not my last. C-ya in 2012.

I know the weather was terrible, but barely 150 across all 3 duathlon distances (which is about what they had last year)... Can this race survice?

check out the powerman thread in Talk...basically, if having concurrent tri events brings in the #s to cover production expenses (as seems to be MMS's tactic) then why not.

I agree, but still amazed at the low turn-out, something that has been happened out east. Lighter Than Air duathlon in NJ used to see 300+ on a regular basis, under 100 this past year. (Yet a mid-Sept Du in Wis got over 600!)

Dousman has a history of strong fields, though...fluctuating between 400-800 for the last several years according to onlineraceresults.com. likewise Green Bay.
go just one week later from Dousman though, to Kettleman (enjoyed talking to you there BTW), and we barely get over 100. Lake Country in Ixonia didn't even crack 90. yes, weather wasn't ideal for either of those, but the distances and courses were not killers by any means.
looking back at the other RACC races, South Shore and Mequon did reasonably well with over 200 each, and both in the heart of the tri season too.
The strong WI ones are in metro/suburbs. Get into the sticks, and things drop off.
I put a bug in the ear of a midwestevents guy (Lake Mills, Pardeeville, Devils Challenge) about running concurrent dus. He didn't rule it out. Lake Mills might be tough as they pretty much fill that venue already, but if memory serves the other two have room.

Great info Carl! I was at the Kettleman Du this past year and that was a nice field... Being from a cycling background, I am in love with the Dus back in the midwest and the slighty longer bike legs than what you find out East (where the majority of Dus have a 10-12mi bike!)
