Carol Montgomery scored a come from behind victory as she easily recorded the fastest split and won by 20 seconds. The top 3 women recorded the fastest three runs. The US was set up for top finishes as the lead pack coming off the bike consisted of Americans Joanna Zeiger, Becky Gibbs, and Laura Reback, plus Canadian Sharon Donnelly. But Carol Montgomery, down by one minute after the swim and over three minutes after the bike, put in a stunning run to overtake the leaders.
