I'm switching from triathlon to duathlon after 2 years of trying to swim. I do not have the shoulder flexibility, and it won't happen anytime soon. I was OK enough to get to Clearwater, but am tired of making up the 10 minutes I lose on the swim.
What are the big races in duathlon? Are there races like Kona and/or Clearwater? How do you qualify for the big ones?
The more I learn about duathlon, the more interested I have become. But, it is hard to find information.
I live in the Boston area.
Thanks.

Among the big races are Nationals (Richmond in April) and other qualifiers for the World Championships - http://www.duathlon.com/articles/4506, both the short and long course World Championships, and Powerman events. Powerman Zofingen in Switzerland is the duathlon equivalent to Ironman Hawaii.

To answer two of your questions, there are only a few you have to qualify for, ITU du worlds and PowerMan Zofingen are all I can think of.
The biggest du in the world appears to be the London du In Hyde Park I think. That had thousands last year. You can sign up for nationals w/o qualifying.
