Good luck to everyone that is going to race in Richmond this coming weekend. Let's hope for good weather, little wind and a draft free, safe race. See you at the starting line.

Ya wanna talk about that weather again?! Yikes.
Hey, can anyone find posted results on-line yet?

they are posted on duathlonnationals .com

I have a question about that race.
I am looking to see what it takes to be somewhat competitive in age group du's and tri's so I look at times to compare. How accurate was the course at Nationals? It seems that there are a bunch of super fast runners and I might need to take up chess based on how fast people were running. Do you think the run courses in Richmond were 10k and 5k?

Thanks and well done to all that raced especially in that heat.

The 5K run was a little short, they said, closer to 3mi. The bike splits are a tad slower than you'd expect because of the three looped, technical course. 10K was right on.

There are some discrepancies, too, on a couple of the posted results that are way out of whack, so bear that in mind. (and I hope they get corrected)

Agree that the 2nd run was a tad short, not super short but a bit.

I must say that this was a very well run race. The bike course was especially enjoyable.

Very good job Sports Backers, see ya next year!

5k was closer to 2.7 miles. Judging by the course map on the event website, runners were supposed to make a LEFT out of the Civil War Center and go up 5th Street toward Byrd St. before turning around and coming back down toward the canal.

Not sure when or why they decided to eliminate that part but I know I wasn't complaining.

I did do this. And the course map says it was 3.03 miles.

Unfortunately, the Official Map and Cue Sheet don't sync up: the map indicates making a left after passing through the fence gate at the end of the gravel road out of transition but the Cue Sheet says turn right on 5th.

I don't recall a race marshal there or any signage saying go left up 5th toward Byrd.

I think this is where the distance was lost.

DUATHLON NATIONALS 5K RUN COURSE
-From the transition area, follow the gravel road going East to 5th Street
- Right on 5th
-Left on Tredegar Street to access 10th Street

thought on the course distance comment. Please read this as a thought, I'm NOT taking any shots at anyone who has questioned the accuracy of the course. lots of flaming on the forum lately and I don't want to be seen as someone contributing to that.

is a big deal? everyone is doing the same course, so if it's xx short it's xx short for everyone.

on a related note, there is a race director in the cleveland area - who I will leave unnamed - who I think deliberately "shorts" his course as part of a strategy.

Think of when you ran your best times, didn't you feel great about that and feel motivated to come back next year and do the race where you produced your best time?

what are your thoughts?

cheers!
Mike
