I read an article on thoracic spine mobility on Mark's Daily Apple http://www.marksdailyapple.com/...cic-spine-mobility/. Most of the solutions he discusses are things I have picked up from chiropractors and massage therapists over the years. However I was impressed by the number of replies from a variety of people. I realize nearly everyone has some form of sort of tension/stress along their spine(especially after sitting in aero or in front of a computer) but these replies were discussing intense pain yet I didnt see many new options except someone who mentioned the radroller?
As someone who "deals" with this kind of discomfort/pain and who tried Mark's suggestions I realized I was looking at the wrong forum and have decided to seek out the endurance community for help.
Basically I'm wondering what you all do? I have a solid bike fit but even when I don't ride I still tend to find tightness throughout that area. Massage helps, chiropractic work helps, diet, stretching and all that helps but I want something that provides consistent(and if possible, inexpensive) solution. If anyone has used a radroller (radroller.com)? It looks like it would do better than my foam roller, trigger point therapy, etc.
I hope this starts a good discussion on a problem I'd imagine we all have.

Stress and tension can cause pain and muscle spasms in the back, neck and shoulders, as well as headaches and other problems. Tense muscles can be attributed to misalignments of the spine, over stimulation of nerves, or poor removal of toxins by the lymphatic system and a lack of oxygen rich circulation.
It is suggested that the stretch to the muscles while inverted allowed the circulation to enter the sore muscle, bringing oxygen rich blood; inversion also stimulated the lymph system to clear the muscle of the toxin build-up.
Regular stretching may also reduce risk of injury, and counteract chronic muscle tension that arises from too much stress and a sedentary lifestyle
As far as i'm concernedMassage helps reduce muscle tension and stiffness in numerous ways, including increasing blood flow to your muscles. Some research shows that regular massage may also boost immunity by stimulating the production of white blood cells.

Pat is a kind of very good muscle massage method which can promote haemal circulation, improve metabolism, remove partial muscle tension. Methods: the flap standing posture, two legs are apart, relax, natural, chest's neck straight with double hollow blow gently knocks, then switch to neck with a spoon, together, shoulder sling dynamic crossover pat nature and back again, and pat from the legs and waist, chest, and repeat, general again about 15-30 minutes. Pat action should first light weight, after the first slow, quick speed, moderate, unfavorable too, the joint disease, hard muscle can be older, rhythms can slightly faster.

I would recommend some products from RPI of Atlanta , maker of The Massage Stick.
Lance and company have been using these since 1998 and for a very good reason.
In this specific case I'd recommend 3 products:
- Stiff Stick ( self massage), perfect for deep tissue simulated massage ( including horizontal and vertical back massage)
- Trigger Wheel ( simulated acupressure), which targets areas left by Stiff Stick ( esp. shoulders muscles)
- Posture Curve ( kneading). Painful during use but amazingly effective after ( 3 minutes of segmental stretching increases flexibility in back area by 26%)
