I'm training for my first sprint duathlon in October, a Run 1.5 miles, Bike 12.4 miles, Run 1.5 miles. My question is this: is it best to wear padded bike shorts when running to avoid the shimmy when sweating or suffer with "Bike Bum" and don't wear padded shorts. Or is it best to wear running shorts then shimmy into the padded pants and then switch again. Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance!

I don't know how competitive you want to be, but most of the duathletes won't be spending time in transition with changing shorts. In a race that short, you can get away with lack of padding, but many multisport athletes use a race-specific short (or even a brief) with a thin, minimalist, quick-drying pad and a short inseam dimension (5-7" for the shorts).
Have fun!

Desoto out of California makes a great tri/du padded short and I do all my training in them including long runs and have raced several stand alone 1/2M's with them because they were warmer than running shorts.

I like TYR tri shorts and wear an underarmour jock ( no cup) Keeps everything together...no shimmy and the bike is comfortable.
