Hi-
I am considering signing up for my first du in early Oct. I think it's a 2mi, 14mi, 5k...I am mainly a cyclist, but not hardcore. I do mostly tours and cyclocross, some mtb for fun. As for running, a few 5k jaunts at turtle pace for pure conditioning and breathing for cycling. Am I gonna get my rear kicked? I can handle the endurance, but flying I won't be. I just want to do it, enjoy it, and train for a few more..not win by any means.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Will you win your age group? probably not. Will you be last? probably not. Just like any other running or cycling events you have a mix of abilities and experience. Just try it and have fun. If you like it then you can get serious about improving and getting faster or you can just do it for the exercise and comraderie.

Well... did you do it? I'm getting ready for my first duathlon and wondering how it went for ya. The only competitors I have to talk to around here are seasoned triathletes, and from them, I mostly get the old pep cliches. I'd love to hear it from a new "first-timer." ??? :)

I did the Oct. 10 NJ du on the shore. It was a 2.2 mile run, 10 mile bike, 5k run finish. Not too bad. Placed 65/104, pretty good for a first timer. I have been training since, working on my running because my bike is faster, avg. 20mph. passed most of the runners that past me or I couldn't keep up with. Then for the 5k, they caught up. I fell in love with it. Better than tours or cyclocross. So, my second one is on 3/19 in Brooklyn. This is bigger. A 10k run, 27mi bike, 5k run finish. I went for it and loved it! It's work, sweat, and pain, but all worth it at the end!
