The bike course is a bit challenging, a lot of hills, nothing horrible, but they make you work. The run is out and back. Gradual uphill out, gradual downhill back. I guess proving a point about the quality of this site. The original Geno's du post was removed because it is not associated with USAT. It's a great event, and you don't have to pay extra.

What do you mean by extra fees?? If you are talking about USAT sanctioning that usually runs you about $200. Since the normal tri in my area gets 500 people that is an additional 40 cents a person. Average du gets 200 so add $1 per person.

Geno du is $35. The Big Bear and Greetings of the Goose is $40. Same RD puts on all 3 races. I race USAT Duathlons and only pay $30!!! Same tee shirts, awards, food and safety on the course between these races. 3 Sports Du in Richmond is one race and I can list a lot more. So some USAT races are cheaper than non USAT races in the same region.

So I guess by your point non USAT races should be less than $30??

Triathlantics post race food is head and shoulders above any other race I have ever done, including Ironman races. I have no problem paying the extra couple of dollars for their races, because I know that every corner is covered and the race will go off flawlessley. Plus what I hear they have to pay for permits and police in MD, yes it is more expensive to manage races.

i think what the first person was more referring to was the elimination of a question asking about a non-usat race question. prices are a reflection of what the race director gets charged to hold the event. at almost every duathlon i have been in this year, the numbers are way down and charges to the race have all gone up (shirts, port apotties, food, awards, etc.) the only way to keep the race going is to raise prices or as we have seen on other messages the past two weeks, the races dissapear. isn't it ironman that keeps raising prices year after year and for any large race this year, i've seen those price go up astronomically.

In Virginia and North Carolina we pay almost nothing for police and permits. It is part of cost of the city doing business. That is why we are able to keep our costs lower. I know other RD's have to pay thousands for permits all of which go to uping the cost of an event.

Not sure where you live but in this part of North Carolina the police are well paid. To do a 5k running race they require a 4 hr min at overtime wages!! Same goes with a 5/30/5 race. Food after the race is provided by the sponsors of the race. Better sponsors better food. Why do you think bagel companies, water companies, gatorade etc are always found on the back of your race tee shirt.
