Calcium Depletion Reply

Is there any validity to the theory that phosphates in soda/canned beverages, whether regular or diet, block the absorption of calcium during our digestion process and actually causes our bodies to remove Calcium from the skelatal framework?

yes, I forget exactly what happens, but something to the effect that carbonated drinks change the balance in our blood stream and to compensate for this our bodies pull calcium out of our system and/or inhibit uptake of more calcium because it is being used to balance out our blood stream b/c carbonation was ingested...something to that effect - any scientist/Dr.'s out there know the 'whole story'

Checking the indgredients labels on canned beverages I found a canned soda that does not list phosphoric acid as an indgredient. Diet Rite flavored soda's do not list phosphoric acid and they utilize "Splenda" as the artificial sweetner.

Another FYI. Since my injury I have been taking GNC Calcium 1000 plus magnesium and vitamin D supplements. The fifth metetarsal in my right foot that was broken ( actually my podiatrist showed me the top view x-ray which show's I shattered it)is healing quite nicely. Out of the cast after five weeks and I can do everything except running at this point.Of course I had started riding my bike with the cast on, but that is beside the point. Hopefully the re-evaluation in a couple of weeks will allow me to begin running again!
