I am wondering if you have some training advice for me. I am doing my 1st duathon this summer. I have done several 1/2's and a marathon but have never experienced a duathon. I am fairly new to running (3 yrs) and really have not been on my bike much for many years. Any advice to help me liv e through the event and perhaps not be too embarrassed?
Thanks!

First, age should not be a concern. I was 50 when I did my first duathlon. I showed up at that race with a 10 speed that was over 20 years old. When I looked around and saw all these kids with their fancy road bikes, I thought I was in over my head. But I did fine. And I'm sure you'll do OK. Remember to have fun.
Get a lot of time on the bike, so you'll feel comfortable. It's your first Du, so don't worry about speed. That will come later. Make sure you do some brick training (bike / run). You'll find that your legs will feel like rubber after getting off the bike and running. After a few bricks you'll get used to it. Don't go out too fast on the first run. You want to save that energy for the last run. As for the transition, again, this is your first Du, so don't worry too much about this aspect. If you continue with Du's, you'll come up with a transition routine.
To summerize:
Have fun
Get bike time
Bricks
Good luck....................

I'm 52, or will be in couple of days and I'll be doing my first duo on April 25. I've done tris before but never a duo.
SRHrunner gives good advice. get on the bike and do the bricks. The transition feel from run to bike and bike to run will take some getting used to but your legs wil adjust after a few times as you get stronger.
Train and make sure you plan recovery times between workouts. That's whne your muscles will heal and get stronger.
Have fun with it. I'm sure you'll meet a whole bunch of cool people on the way.
