In Dec 09, my bike slid out on black ice. My femur went through my acetabulum, which was completely reconstructed. I am riding again, & swimming, but can only run 1/2 mile - at 15 1/2 min pace. My hip flexor & abductor ar eextremely weak & slow to repond to PT, although quad, calf & hamstring are close to normal. Also I cannot get on my bik ewithout putting it on the ground first b/c I have limited range in moving my left leg out. Started putting weight on hip on 3/7 & walking unassisted lsat week. Anybody know how long it might take to fully recover from this type of injury? Also, where to get hip pad that I can put in my shorts. I have one pair of downhill MTB shorts with pads.

Edward,
I had a very similar injury where the head of my femur was driven thru my acetabulum. Initially it took two major surgeries to piece the bones back in place. Because the impact much of my cartilage was destroyed. Because very little cartilage was there it eventually became bone on bone. 14 months after the "event" I had a hip resurfacing. This was a little over one week ago and doing well.
No one wants to have another operation but you may research this as your cartilage may be damaged.
The resurfacing is similar to a hip replacement but with MUCH less restrictions. Eventually (-6-12 months) you can run again and swimming and biking is much quicker.
