I'm a 56yr old triathlete whose just qualified as a member of Team GB for The World Duathlon Champs in Rimini - Sept 25th - 28th.
Should i reduce my twice weekly swim sessions to 1 or do away with them altogether and commit everything to duathlon training?
I come from a running/cycling background and find swimming tough but a necessary part of triathlon!!!
Any thoughts?
Clive

I also qualified for Rimini, Italy. My training is going to be concentrating on the 10k run and the 40k bike, probably more on the bike.
Practice on doing brick workouts (run/bike,and bike/run. Use the swimming as cross training. Good luck, see you there.

Run bike and run more until your legs just have to have a day off. Hit the pool for recovery instead of taking that day off.

If you need the time for additional run, bike or brick then drop a swim session. But I wouldn't drop both. Lkke mentioned above it's a good way to recover. Also it helps with aerobic fitness and endurance as well as affecting (positively) your breathing during the run and bike legs...

Thanks Ron, sound advice. I've now dropped a swim set and use the remaining one to rest my legs. Entered my first 20ml TT for 3 years last week and managed 53mins 16secs on an undulating course with quite a strong wind on the last 8mls towards the finish.
Have you booked your accomadation in Rimini yet?

Hi,
Very true. The duathlon season is very short over here so need to keep some swim fitness for the Tri's i've entered.

Ouch! - I can recommend deep water jogging if able to. very boring but great for maintaining fitness levels.
I'm booked in at the Hotel President Rimini, and for once leaving the wife at home!
