Team USA uniform and Du World Championships Reply

I haven't received the specifics on the Team USA uniform that is required, but for anyone who has been a USA team member, do you recall if they will allow additional sponsors on the uniform. I see Team USA and Olympic uniforms usually have one logo under USA on the chest/stomach as well as sponsor name on the legs. I am trying to get some businesses that sponsor our club to provide some financial support, but at first they said no because I can't wear the regular gear. They are warming up to the idea if their name can be on the Team USA uniform...

just curious, do they provide the uniform free of charge or do you have to buy it?

You buy the uniform at a discounted rate.
As for other advertising - I have seen others screen additional logos/names on their uniforms - but I do not know if USAT has a rule on that.

This is quoted from my Team USA guidelines from USAT preceding the 2005 Short Course Duathlon World Championships in Newcastle, Australia:

Sponsor logos will be allowed on the uniforms. The rules of logo placement are:
1. The logos must be no greater than 1/3 the size of the Team USA logo. The Team USA logo will be approximately 4 inches wide by 2.5 inches high.
2. There is no limitation on the number or position of sponsor logos for Age Group Competitors, provided they do not obscure the Country name.
3. The logo cannot be of a company that manufacturers sports clothing or has any parent or sister company ties that are competitors to [current uniform manufacturer].
4. All logos must appear below the screened “Team USA” logo.

Other than the "USA", it's basically a free-for-all. But, hey, good taste is always in order. Oh, and I remember--no sponsors on your bicycle or helmet that are not affiliated in some way with cycling. Sponsors on hats, visors, or other headwear during the runs were fair game as well.

I was heading down a somewhat sarcastic path...what's the value added to being on the team? I'm as patriotic as the next guy but if a sponsor is willing to wave a few more bucks for better size/positioning of advertisement...what would the motivation be to comply with wearing the garment as mandated?

When should we expect to get info on the uniforms (ordering, etc.)? LC Worlds is about 8 weeks out, so there is plenty of time. I've asked USAT, but they are either unresponsive or unorganized (or both).

Sorry.. I posted the topic then went out of town without computer access.

I had the same problem with USAT contacting me. Finally they sent an email saying that they can't provide me specifics until the race director submits the results. The race I qualified thru was on May 24. I contacted the race director--they submitted the results right after the race, but in the wrong format so they re-submitted them. The invite from USAT was sent to me, via email, on June 11 with a deadline of June 23 to accept or they go to the rolldown list. I emailed back to them about uniform information--they sent me the pdf doc that contains the ITU rules, but said that ordering/pricing, who to go thru, etc will be provided next week (coincidentally, after the deadline). So, to get the ball rolling you basically have to make sure the director submitted your results so you receive an invite. Then you have to register for $300 (includes race fee and parade package(?)--I think that is USAT apparel). The standard Team USA race uniform is around $100. Adding logo's could cost a chunk more.. But if it gets $$ from your sponsors or club, its worth it.

Team USA uniforms for Geel are now up on the website. Choices include uniforms from Speedo (2007), but also DeSoto and TYR. Looks like an offering with lighter weight fabrics, colors (white!), tops with rear pockets and shorts with pads!

Sounds like someone listened to all the griping (including mine) about the Speedo uniforms last year, which I thought fit like a padless, pocketless, full body condom!

Hopeful the sizing chart is accurate, we will see, ordered mine yesterday
