Hi all,
I'm new to the running as a sport concept, but very excited for new challenges. My friend and I signed up for a duathlon in Michigan next fall. I'm not quite sure what I'm getting myself into, but it is a long distance powerman (4mi run, 56 mi bike, 13.1 mi run)
Most of my running experience has come in basketball/football or on a treadmill. Any suggestions on where to go with this during the winter months? Any other general tips are appreciated as well.
Mark

Sounds like fun. Do you have a website for the event? I just started too, and would like to try this, as there are no long events close to me.

Choosing a good pair of running shoes is crucial if you don’t want to do yourself a mischief! Here are five top tips for choosing a good pair of
running shoes.
1. Make use of half sizes. This will ensure your running shoes really are a good fit. It may be a good idea to get your feet measured instore before ordering online –
where running shoes tend to be cheaper.
2. Choose them to last. Chances are, unless you are out running a marathon every day, your running shoes will last you a good few years. Consequently, it’s worth
paying a bit extra for a quality brand.
3. Think where you will run. If you plan to run on concrete surfaces such as roads a gel heel in your running shoes will help protect your knees and shins. If you plan
to run cross country a good pair of trail shoes is essential.
4. Check whether you are buying men’s shoes or women’s shoes. Believe me, it’s easier said than done…..
5. Consider getting a gait analysis. If you are following the steps above and are still suffering from injuries and discomfort, a gait analysis will help you find the cause
of the problem.
