Can someone verify that the July long course nationals duathlon in Oklahoma City will be a qualifier for the 2010 Worlds long course to be held in Scotland? Also, does anyone know what the race distances will be for the Oklahoma event?
Thanks/BC

Long course nationals would be a qualifier for the Worlds Long Course should they occur in 2010. In 2009, there was not a long course world championships. The only qualifier for Scotland (2010 Short Course Worlds) is the USA National Championships in Richmond in April.

What's concerning is that:
a) for a second year, no one seems to be stepping up to host a long course world duathlon event and;
b) The USAT choice of a National Long Course event is a short course! Check out the link.
Maybe they wil have us do it 2X or 3X. It seems they could have found an existing race, but the flatlanders have been complaining for 3 years about Auburn (World's Toughest Tri) being National Long Course Du Championship.

I lived in Norman, Ok and raced this course it is flat with one roller on the bike. The road on the back side of the lake is not smooth, unless they have repaved it. The runs are easy. I agree the runs need to be longer and double loop of the bike course. Make in 10K-48K-10K.

I have raced this course many times in the late 90's, and even though the runs have moved, the bike course is still the same loop. It used to be the 89er stage race TT course. Jonathan Vaughters put in a fast TT there once... I see no reason the runs couldn't be extended, and the ride be two or three loops. I guess everyone will have to wait and see if the director changes course length. It is very well run/organized. The road did have alot of large cracks, but it has been repaved, and is totally smooth. I used to live about 10 miles from there and could ride to the course.

I emailed the race director, and his response was that the Nationals long Course would be 10K/74K/10K for the July event.
