Description: Not just energy, Electrolyte Energy!
e-Gel is teh only Gel that provides complete balanced hydration, sustained energy and electrolyte replacement. Packed with 230 mg sodium and 85 mg potassium, e-Gel has nearly 4 times the electrolyte levels of other leading gels. e-Gel is also formulated with complex carbohydrates so you get sustained energy wthout the BONK associated with simple sugars, brown rice syrup or honey.
If maltodextrin is soooooo bad, then why does virtually every leading energy gel and sports drink use it (GU, PowerGel, Hammer Gel, Carb-BOOM, Cytomax, Accelerade, Enervit, Extran, G-Push, GU2O)? Because it works, thats why. Also, none of these products use brown rice syrup.
Personally I don't have a problem downing 150 calories at a pop, but on longer rides and runs I carry a gel flask anyway - so the size of the package doesn't matter.
patf-I have to agree with you.
That much gel at one time is just way too much. A spike and crash is inevitable. The couple of rides I've used e-gel on have been horriable. If you end up not using it all at once, you end up with a monstrous oozing package in your pocket.
The other issue is the type of sugar: Maltodextrin is a highly refined sugar, thus part of the result of this is that it loses a lot of its nutrients in the refinement process. Gel companies therefore add all of these lost nurtients. Why do that when you can use brown rice syrup and have all of those nutrients included naturally?
patf - your review of e-Gel is not valid. As a former CLif SHOT user I actually compared the two products (along w/several others) and respectfully disagree w/your assertions.
1) You say you are a Clif SHOT user and you have a problem with the sugars in e-Gel?? e-Gel has less than 20% and Clif SHOT has 50%. Look at the
packages again and you see the difference.
2) Ingredients you've never heard of?? Try picking up a pack of GU, PowerGel or any other REAL energy gel and you will see amino acids,
vitamins, etc. - just like you find in e-Gel. You won't find these ingredients in Clif SHOT.
3) You would rather eat plain sugar or honey?? I think this statement pretty much sums up your knowledge of energy gels.
I'm not an employee of e-Gel, not sponsored by them, and have no stake on the success of e-Gel and the company. BUT I guess you could say I am biased toward the product because it is a superior product. I'm racing/training with it this year, and in fact, using it as Powerman Alabama this weekend.
I tried this stuff on a long ride this past weekend. I thought I would try something new. I ordered from the website and the product arrived quickly. I was bummed when I took a look at the back of the pack. Tons of sugar and ingredients I have never heard of? I had a hard time with the size of the package and found the serving way to large to deal with while riding and why 150 calories at a time? I would rather eat a bar. I took it as the package directed, 1-2 serving an hour? This formula did not work for me and I found myself on an energy roller coaster. Why so large? I think I would rather eat plain sugar or honey than this stuff. I'll go back to Clif Shot and throw this stuff away.
E-Gel taste great, fantastic flavors, sit well in your stomach, and pack about 50 extra calories than other leading brands. The packaging could be smaller but is easy to open while running or biking. Also, try the e-fuel. It taste good and provides needed energy and luid replacement. This new company from California has a winning product.
Just got turned on to e-Gel at the tinsel Triathlon in Hemet California last week. Just came on the market and only available in So. Cal stores (and on the web - cranksports.com). Taste and thickness are great (goes down smooth), but the best part is the electrolyte replacement benefits. e-Gel has 3 or 4 times more electrolytes than the rest and the pack is bigger (150 calories) so I carry fewer gels. My favorite flavories are the Vanilla Strawberry Slam and the Mountain Rush.
